Greg and I needed to get away for a weekend to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. Helen was the perfect place for that since Greg is a lover of all things German.
If you've never been to this quaint little town, sit back, grab your coffee, and let me take you on a virtual journey.
Very quaint.
Very German.
Very Touristy.
I have no idea what this guy was supposed to be .... weird!
Our first stop was lunch at
Old Bavaria Inn. What do you get in a German restaurant? A pretzel and beer, of course!
Next stop? The Liquor store ... for more German beer! :)
Next stop ... the cabin!
Loved our
cabin ... it was quiet and peaceful.
You can even take a carriage ride through the town, though we didn't.
Instead, we played Bingo! Yeah, that's fine - go ahead and laugh. It was a room full of white heads, and I didn't win a thing. But it was fun. And they served beer! :)
After Bingo, we decided to play some Putt-Putt.
Check out that form. lol
Saturday morning we set out on a search for coffee and found Betty's Country Store.
And then we set out on a morning hike at Unicoi State Park.
Next, we found this place called Goats on the Roof. Really. There were GOATS. On the ROOF!
They really are cute little buggars.
Then it was back to Helen for dinner time.
We both got burgers at the Troll Tavern. I know - blasphemy - how do you go to a German town and not eat German food? I don't know. I guess after a day of hiking, we were both in the mood for burgers.
This was my attempt at capturing the Super Moon. Oh well. Didn't pan out so well.
We woke up Sunday morning knowing our weekend was almost over, but not before we hiked up the highest mountain in GA.
It was an amazing day! Gorgeous views.
Love the clouds.
We had fun hiking.
But then it was back to reality. We absolutely LOVED our weekend away, and the kids LOVED their weekend with Gramma and Grampa.
We highly recommend Helen, GA for a quaint, German, touristy getaway.
